Which I wasn't sure I was going to do, so I didn't want to commit to, because I've had work, school, homework, Grandmommie's been sick, etc. But today, at the last minute ('cause all the other days have passed me by) I had an inspiration. It's a drabble -- I can do a drabble a week, can't I?

So: Boromir isn't mine, no matter how much I might lament that fact. Neither are the hobbits, Faramir, Gondor ... all that's Tolkien's. All I can claim is a bit of irritation at the description of Boromir as being arrogant and condescending for trying to teach Pippin and Merry to fight. Not making any money...please don't sue.

Characters: Boromir, Pippin, Merry. Rating: G. Boromir's thoughts as he teaches Pippin and Merry how to use their swords.

Brotherhood

It is his oldest role, the one which has always felt most comfortable; more so than warrior, commander -- living legend which some would name him. Certainly more so than the role which will be his birthright, to follow his father’s footsteps as the Steward of Gondor. As he spars with the little ones, he cannot help be reminded of the days when he had begun to learn the sword and Faramir was still deemed too young. Despite his father’s orders, had begun to train his brother in secret. After all, he had reasoned, what else are big brothers for?

Very cute! Boromir has always primarily been the protector at heart, hasn't he?

And arrogant and condescending? Yes, he does do that occasionally, but making sure Pippin and Merry can survive the journey =/= condescending, last time I checked.

Oh, I love this--Boromir's protector side has always been one of my favorites, and I love how he looks out for the hobbits! *sniffle* Of course, then I remember what happens next...

Lovely!

They're the ones that redeemed him in the end, so I love this glimpse into his mind and why he was motivated to train them.

There are just people out there who just will not think anything good about Boromir. (Sadly, one of them's my best friend, but I'm working on her.)

I love your icon, btw. :D

The scene is one of my favorites (right after the fight in Moria), and I love the relationship between Boromir and Faramir, so it just seemed like a natural outgrowth.

Another Awwww... :)

This is so sweet.

My twin and I started an LJ community called [livejournal.com profile] stewardsarchive for posting and recc-ing LOTR fics and ficlets based on Denethor, Boromir, and Faramir. Would you mind if we posted links in the community to this lovely drabble, and your other Boromir works?

Cheers,
Rhyselle
