Because apparently, it's going to give people bad ideas, and undermine the C of E's opposition to guns. Or something. And the British Prime Minister is
calling for "wider social responsibility and not just profit."

I dunno. The concept -- aliens in 1950s Britain -- seems pretty nifty to me, if not exactly the kind of "real-world" scenario that might actually cause violence. Unless, of course, the aliens really do show up and take over.

Oh, well. I'm sure, if they do, that there will be someone out there crying for them to take some social responsibility. Or something.
